Her Excellency Dr. (Mrs.) Usha Jeetah is the Ambassador, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Mauritius to the United States of America since February 2002. She is also accredited to Canada, Mexico, and Brazil. Her Excellency Dr. Jeetah is the Chairperson for the Ambassadors’ Committee of Southern African Development Community (SADC) on Africa Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) and the Chairperson for the African Ambassadors’ Committee on African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) in Washington DC.

Ambassador Jeetah belongs to the reputed Jeetah family that contributed in the struggle for independence of Mauritius, and produced a Cabinet Minister at the time Mauritius achieved independence.

Ambassador Jeetah started her career in Education and worked for the improvement of Secondary Education from 1971-1991. She was a pioneer of the Pre-Primary Education in the Republic of Mauritius. She served on the Advisory Board of the Youth Rehabilitation Center and the Cambridge Committee for the Secondary Education in Mauritius.

She is also a member of The Mauritius Alliance of Women and is a renowned social worker and worked to improve the living condition of women & children in Mauritius. Ambassador Jeetah served as a member of several Organizing Committees for International Forums.

Since 1971, Ambassador Jeetah conceived and presented programs on Radio, TV, and the Mauritius College of Air (MCA) in Mauritius. She also delivered hundreds of lectures on Philosophy and literature throughout the Island.

She, then, moved on as a member of the Central Committee of Movement Socialiste Militant (MSM), and a member of the Political Bureau of Movement Socialiste Mauricien (MSM), the party in power at present. She was also the President of Women’s Wing of MSM.

Her Excellency Ambassador Jeetah completed her studies, B.A. (Hons), Masters, and PhD in Philosophy. Ambassador Jeetah is married to Dr. Ram Jeetah, a Senior Executive of State Bank of Mauritius, with four children.
